Beautiful Birds

I just can't get enough of these Beautiful Birds from
Unity Stamp Co's KOM Dec 2016!!

On this oversized card I first embossed them on vellum and layered it on a stamped background.  Ribbons & lace border the vellum.

Adhesive is hidden on the back of the stamped panel as vellum & all are wrapped around it and adhered in the back.

I punched an edge on it and folded it over the dark cardstock (Island Indigo/Stampin' Up!) to help decorate the back.

3D flowers energize the front, with centers of glossy accents over raspberry ink & sprinkled with glitter.

So that there would be somewhere to add a note or stamp a sentiment, white embossed paper was added & rubbed with matching ink.  The single little bird was a fun for me accent!

Thanks for stopping by to take a peek!  The following is a list of fun challenges where I've entered this card.

Sing

Hello Again Fellow Paper Craft Lovers!!  I am really excited to share my latest with you!  The birds are part of the Unity Stamp Co KIT OF THE MONTH from the Always Been You 12/16 set.  I just love them & have lots of plans for them :)  Spring & Summer are just the perfect time to share them!

After water coloring the birds I put a soft gray wash behind them.  I had so much fun layering colors and embossing the various pieces. The little banners are made with washi tape layered on cardstock and the tumble of flowers with tiny gem centers were rubbed with a stylus to give them a 3D effct and glued down in the centers only.  For a full supply list see the end of this post :)

It's always fun to make the back a little special!

SUPPLY LIST:
Embossing Folders: Cricut Cuttlebug “Bit of Paisley” & Sizzix Stampin’ Up! Script
Flower Die: Spellbinders Shapeabilities Cherry Blossoms,
Stamped Sentiment: Unity Stamp Co “Devoted”

Be sure to check out the following blogs & challenges where I have entered this card!

Birds and Bokeh

Good morning!  I love this time of year when the morning air is still cool but you can sleep with the windows open all night!!  The birds are my alarm clock and the morning light is the most beautiful of the day!

That's what has inspired this card.  I made the background to mimic an out of focus rose bush with splotches of smeared distress inks and then I used my circle dies to make stencils and Versamarked them in -  embossing the damp ink with clear powder.

To me it looks just like the bokeh of sunshine on dew in the early morning :)

I wanted the whole thing to stay "airy" so when I cut the frame I kept it hollow, & added some other die cuts - birds, greenery - a label stamped with leaves and a great sentiment (an oldie from Stampin' Up!)

To give it just a little more of a delicate look I decided to add another frame behind the first.  This die cut is from Poppystamps "Bailiwick Background" & has delicate vines twining around in it.
Inside the card, antiqued the edges and added a strip of
ribbon that matches the "flavor" & colors of the card

Ahhh... so fresh and pretty ~ hope you all get a chance to enjoy the beautiful mornings before the full heat of Summer hits!!

'The flowers have already appeared in the land; The time has arrived for pruning the vines, And the voice of the turtledove has been heard in our land.

Winter Cardinal

Water color blues & grays background

I love cardinals.  I think it is because of the startling red color of the males in the stark winter snow scape.  Lovely . . . .

This by far though, is my favorite bird stamp!  You can get it here:
http://www.franticstamper.com/Impression-Obsession--Cling-Mounted-Rubber-Stamp--By-Gail-Green--Snowy-Branch-Cardinal_p_115340.html

This was so pretty in person. I don't know why the lace
looks lumped but it wasn't & the card showed through
it.  The background was embossed with a clear
powder that has limited shimmer & sparkle. Subtle
but stunning in person!  The die cut star had a bit of
yellow water color on the inside & was then covered
in prisma glitter. It was then placed on a slightly
sparkling blue lace card stock
After stamping it and coloring it a couple of ways (water color background, vs water color cut out)  decided that I was obsessed with fussy cutting the whole thing and putting on different backgrounds!  I loved the simplicity of the snow scape at the bottom & use the stitched edge dies from Frantic Stamper (http://www.franticstamper.com/Frantic-Stamper-Precision-Die--Stitched-Scene-Builder-Edgers-set-of-4-dies_p_117394.html)

The red ribbon of paper is Peddlar's Pack Snow Flurry, stamped with white ink, cut to size & scalloped on one side. Then layered over a dark brown.  The background stamp is Stampin Up!'s  French Script in dark brown on Craft.  I love the natural element of this card but wanted just a bit of bling so I added the red sequins

On this one I decided to try a wood grain embossing folder. This one is from  Tim Holtz ALTERATIONS. I inked the inside with several shades of green. After it was embossed I took a brown ink pad and rubbed across the raised areas.  Then a simple tag heat embossed with white branches, attached with brass brads holding the die cut sentiment JOY found at one of my favorite web sites https://www.papertreyink.com/pti-dies/papertrey-ink-holiday-double-cuts-die/
I layered ivory and olive ribbon beneath it putting that panel on top of a dark brown ~ pinking one edge & then onto cranberry cardstock.  I think this one is almost my favorite!!

Because I'm not a great photographer, here's what you can't see, but made a big difference in the finished product:
1) All of the snow on the branches was covered with the Smooch Pearlized Top Coat
2) The berries were colored with 2 or 3 shades of red & orange
4) Each bird was lifted by dimensional tape (the star was flat against the background)
5) The background of the die cut "JOY" was heat embossed with Ivory branches.  I wanted to keep the clean look but didn't want a large blank space either.
6) The backgrounds shimmered like a cold sky behind the birds ~ I just loved the effect!
