One of my favorite things about cardmaking is all the details.  I am definitely not one of the quickest card makers out there.  I just love to keep adding little tidbits of joy to my projects!!  I also tend to make card fronts and then figure out how to add backs to them without just pasting the front to a blank card base!

Best Witches

  This is one of my favorite #witch cards!  I used it in another blog post as an example of using #homemade plaid (link) paper (see the background strip?!) But I really wanted to give it its own post because I love the puff of purple smoke, super cool moon and the crazy streak of bats!!

Bendi-Fold Creepers!

Silhouettes and gloomy skies make anything seem creepy.  Funny that the name of a bare deciduous tree is skeleton!! Anyway, having some fun with this Tim Holtz classic die "Halloween Shadows".  

The simple formula for a bendi-fold card is to make a double fold card that will mail flat and then cut a slit any distance toward the middle of the card on the second page for the tab you will cut into the edge of the first page!!  The further in the slit, the greater the bend. 

 Do the same thing for the back of the card, cutting a slit for the tab you'll make on the second (back) page edge.  There are lots of formulas on Pinterest (Link), don't be intimidated ~ they're so fun and pretty simple to construct!  For extra dimension only adhere parts where necessary so that they 'pop' when the card bends and they do not!!

Halloween Greetings!!

The air is cold even in the full sun and all the trees are on fire with the colors of Fall.  In mere days children will be happily dressed as their favorite characters, animals or something ghoulish and scary!!  I love Autumn & I love Halloween :)  That's what makes this season of paper crafting so much fun!! Today I have a see through shaker card to share!  And the great digi collection that I used to make it was provided by this week's PIP CHALLENGE sponsor Digital Delights and you can win a gift certificate of $5 to use in their store!

"Boiling in the Pot" is the perfect set to use for a fun shaker card.  I put a branch through the crystal ball and added different stars, sequins and beads.  I also made the back of the shaker clear so that I could put the adorable witch peeking through it with her frog.  (I like to think she's giving him a bubble bath ~ the other possibilities are too gruesome!)
A small detail that made a BIG difference was the addition of Sharpie Black to the edge of the dimensional tape.  This helps the tape to disappear!  Next time I will color the back of the card stock with it too so the white edge doesn't show through the window on the inside of the card...

Fall Fence Z-Card with Bugaboo Stamps!

so in entering you will have a great chance at winning some Crafty Goodness from their awesome stamp store!! Weeks ago you might recall my Owl Trio Bugaboo post?  Well !! !!  I made it to the craft store & finally finished my digi watercolor project I was so excited about :) 
 

I used only the FALL FENCE  stamp and a couple of sentiment stamps.  Admittedly this card took me hours!!  Now that I have all of the templates made though additional cards will be a breeze ~mostly! I trimmed some pieces for layering and used them like  I did the leaves in the pumpkin cameo above right. 

          

If you're interested in making your own or manipulating digital stamp images you can reference the following how to:

tracing close to the image with the selection
tool, this way if you add layers there's
no big white space or overlap



I decided to make several images from the original  copying  and pasting them to a new blank jpeg, using the selection tool to outline just the parts I wanted to single out.  If there were edges or lines where I didn't want them, I "painted" them white and put in new lines with black! Blowing it up big helps to see what you're doing too!

After I have my images cut out (I save each separately Never altering my original digi) I paste them to a word doc. This way I can make sure they print out the right sizes for my project.  I cram as many on a doc as possible because I have to use a full sheet of watercolor paper each time I print an image. NOTE: your printer may not print things that are too close to the edge of your paper so always print a "dummy" sheet on typing paper to be sure!! I use my dummy to print out the real thing & keep it in my file.

    

Not advertising for anyone, but the only kind of watercolor paper I've found that goes easily through my printer is this one!! As a bonus it is VERY inexpensive.  I am a complete watercolor novice but I don't notice any drop in project quality.  You may want a higher grade for your own projects but this works great for me (I have the higher quality which must be thicker because it will not go through my {ancient} printer)

Creating Custom Plaid Papers

Have you noticed with the onset of Fall all the new plaid papers that are coming out?  I am one of those people that is crazy about plaids. I just LOVE them!! Unfortunately I rarely am able to find papers that are not only the colors I want but also the pattern of plaid I like! 

If you truly love stamping (like I do!!) this might be the time to start making your own plaid papers.  The following is a picture tutorial on creating your own  designs. Click on the pictures to enlarge them & make reading the notes on them easier.

Also, unless you plan to make your lines with a ruler, or free hand, you'll want a "plaid builder" stamp set. I'm sure there are many out there.  Here's one of the sets carried by Papertrey Ink   https://www.papertreyink.com/stamps/plaid-builder-stamp-set/

The stamp set I am using is Retired (Long ago!) by Stampin' Up!

To make your lines evenly apart make incremental marks at the top, bottom & sides of your paper and line up with the stamp lines on the imaging sheet. Once your first lines are in they become your guide to the next stamping lines.  If you need to extend the size beyond the size of your stamps the best way to keep there from being a line across your finished work is to stagger up & down your original lines so that the stamped connection is scattered through your piece.

I extended the length of the stamps above as an after thought. You can see how I ended all of the edges in the same line.  Although careful as I stamped the line becomes more apparent. Staggering where the end of the stamp falls would eliminate this linear distraction

 

If you aren't sure how far apart or what colors or line patterns to use making your plaid, find one you like. . . . in a book, on line, maybe your favorite blanket or shirt.  Have it nearby and stamp the elements from that as you go.  It's limitless how many ways & colors you can stamp them!  It is also a good idea to identify & use the colors in your favorite papers.  Then they are always sure to match!
